We are extremely proud to announce that our series ETTY, created by Hagai Levi, has been selected at the Venice Film Festival in September (Out of Competition)
Freely inspired by the diary of Etty Hillesum, the series written and directed by Hagai Levi (Scenes from a Marriage, The Affair, In Treatment) traces the extraordinary inner journey of the Dutch Jewish writer between 1941 and 1943. The text is a chronicle of her profound spiritual awakening.
ETTY is the story of a modern, intelligent and free-spirited woman grappling with her inner doubts and darkness, but endowed with extraordinary spiritual depth. Over the course of the series, a tumultuous love affair with psychochirurgist Julius Spier becomes the catalyst for Etty's profound transformation. As the noose tightens around her, her journey culminates in an extraordinary act of solidarity.
As producers, ETTY offers us a new and deeply relevant perspective on our times. Against a backdrop of right-wing politics and rising authoritarianism, Etty's unshakeable faith in humanity and life becomes a message of resistance that is, sadly, as relevant as ever.
