Violette Leduc,
In Pursuit of Love

Documentary, 57 minutes, 2013

Director: Esther Hoffenberg

Synopsis:

"If you start writing an autobiography you have to go all the way" asserted Violette Leduc. Homosexuality, abortion, illegitimacy, she confronted all these taboo topics in 1950s France without fear or hypocrisy. Her "intrepid sincerity" brought her admiration and support from Simone de Beauvoir. Almost 50 years after the public success of her autobiography The Bastard, the strength of Violette Leduc's books remains intact, as well as her original personality. Inspired by Violette's poetic style, the film draws the portrait of a great author ahead of her time. It is a hymn to freedom and to the magic in words.
